The Michigan Film Festival will kick off with a reception and workshop Aug. 28 at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, 101 Monroe Center NW.

The event continues Aug. 29 at the GRAM and the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, 41 Sheldon Blvd. SE, with seminars, workshops and screenings of locally produced films, including "To Live and Die in Dixie," "S.O.U.L. of Philanthropy" and "Except for Six."
